We Are Hiring A Collections Coordinator

Overview
In partnership with Wayne State University’s School of Information Sciences, Detroit Sound Conservancy (DSC) — a grassroots, do-it-yourself, nonprofit mobile museum and archive advocating for Detroit’s ongoing musical legacies — announces the creation of a part-time, paid, fellowship named in honor of one of Detroit’s most impactful music journalists: Dan Sicko (1969-2011). The goal of the fellowship will be to provide an ongoing professional opportunity for recent archival graduates as they search for full time work in their chosen field while also providing DSC with its first collections coordinator. Funding for our Dan Sicko Collections Fellow is being provided by funds from DSC’s Dan Sicko Scholarship. WSU’s School of Information has agreed to match this funding.
Position Description
This position is primarily one of archival administration and coordination. However though a strong understanding of archival practices and needs are necessary for this position they are not sufficient. Instead, the strongest applicants will be able to show evidence of strong public communication and a capacity to take on development and grant-writing.
In that spirit, the primary goals for this position will be:
— finalization of DSC’s first full inventory
— readying of DSC’s archives for public exhibition at the Blue Bird Inn
In addition the fellow will:
— develop and execute grant applications for our collections
— manage collections volunteers
— write/script short videos and social media posts to message needs and plans to our audiences across social media, including our Patreon campaign
— maintain professional communication with DSC staff, board, advisers, and community partners
— maintain professional communication with prospective collections granters, business partners, and volunteers
The inaugural fellow will be paid $15 an hour, 8 hours a week, report to the DSC’s Collections Committee, and will be selected from graduates, and imminent graduates, of WSU’s Archival Administration certificate program. Fellows may apply to renew their position in the second year.
