Job Description

About the Detroit Sound Conservancy
The Detroit Sound Conservancy’s mission is to increase awareness of and support to Detroit’s musical heritage through advocacy, preservation, and education in a spirit of vigilance and solidarity. The Detroit Sound Conservancy addresses severe challenges in the areas of preservation and education, with programs throughout the year both on and offline to identify and provide services.

Position Description
The DSC is seeking a current college student, current graduate student, recent college graduate, or otherwise appropriate candidate, who is interested in serving as a paid intern and providing a wide range of database, research, administrative, and general support to DSC’s development and programming teams. In return, the DSC will provide an opportunity for the intern to gain experience in and familiarity with areas such as programming, fundraising, neighborhood development, cultural preservation, education, and the day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization dedicated to Detroit’s historically most creative community. The Intern will report to the Executive Director and will support both development and programming teams.

Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist the development team in entering data into database.
Conduct research on potential donors, community partners, and related industries.
Weigh in on development and programming strategy.
Help create and maintain sales pipeline for mobile programming assets.
Support and facilitate logistics for mobile programming.
Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external use.
Draft correspondence, reports, proposals and donor appeals.
Maintain files and other materials.
Attend board and staff meetings
Assist with mailings, filing, and special projects as needed

Qualifications
Strong writing and research abilities.
Desire to learn more about fundraising, philanthropy, and programming.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and able to work with Google Drive / Docs.
Experience with databases is a plus.
Good interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
A demonstrated commitment to DSC’s mission and values.
Unimpeachable ethical standards and personal integrity.

Hours, Start Date and Duration
Flexible within business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm). A firm commitment of 8 hours per week at $12 per hour is required. The internship will start at a mutually agreed upon date and may continue through 2017 academic year depending on mutual interest, satisfactory performance, and ongoing funding.
