Abstract: In the 1930s-1950s, Detroit was the home of a number of popular live radio dramas broadcast nationally including Sgt. Preston of the Yukon, The Lone Ranger, and The Green Hornet. This collection contains a recording of the Detroit Producers Association’s fourth annual “Pioneer Night”, which honored the writers, actors, and producers of these early Detroit radio dramas. The evening reunited the casts and crews for a special performance of their radio shows, including live sound effects, and honored with lifetime achievement awards during the Pioneer Night documented in this collection. The ceremony was held at the Radisson Cadillac Hotel in downtown Detroit, and hosted by Hal Youngblood. The collection also includes brief correspondence from the donor describing how live sound effects were created for the event.
