Abstract: The owner and creator of the five boxes of scrapbooks making up this collection was housebound, and spent his days compiling the clippings, photos, and ephemera in these scrapbooks to supplement his record collection. His record collection eventually came to Carl Hultgren and Windy Weber, owners of Stormy Records, who gifted the scrapbooks to DSC. The scrapbooks themselves document both local and national blues and jazz history, covering figures such as Muddy Waters, McKinney’s Cotton Pickers, Don Redman, Famous Coachman, and Sunnie Wilson, as well as Detroit and Hamtramck venues like Attic Bar, Apex Bar, and the Graystone Ballroom. The scrapbooks offer a wealth of concentrated history and visual material on the rich topics of Detroit jazz and blues.
