Abstract: Christopher Handyside is a musician, author, journalist, radio personality, and DSC Board Member. His collection includes his oral history, which recounts his time as drummer for Ypsilanti-based garage rock band The Hentchmen from 1992-1997, as well as his career in music journalism. His supplemental physical collection mainly documents his time in the Hentchman through flyers for shows in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Ypsilanti; photographs of early Hentchmen shows; and various zines–namely issues #1 and #5 of The Wedge, and issues #1, #2, and #72 of Front Porch. The Wedge was a zine out of Detroit covering car and surf culture, as well as trash and surf rock. Issue #1 features a cover story on The Hentchmen. Front Porch was a zine produced by Front Porch Records, of which Handyside was a part. Also present in the collection are CD copies of Handyside’s show Radio Fever on 97.1 FM and the edited manuscript for his 2004 biography of The White Stripes, Fell In Love With A Band: The Story of the White Stripes. Bands that appear in the collection include, The Monarchs, Rocket 455, The White Stripes, The Trashwomen, Jackie and the Cedrics, and more.
