Detroit Sound is honored to announce we have been awarded a $150,000 Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit (KIP:D) grant from The Kresge Foundation! The funds will be used to open The Blue Bird Inn once again as a neighborhood hearth for the community in the form of a music venue, gathering space and cultural education center. All uses will be welcoming, accessible, intergenerational with an emphasis on preserving our heritage for an innovative collaborative future.

After receiving funding from this program in 2018 to plan for and purchase the Bird, we worked tirelessly in the neighborhood to co-create the vision for the space with residents and community members. We are ready to make this vision a reality.

We are incredibly grateful for this support by The Kresge Foundation, and are excited for the future it gives us. This grant is awarded to nonprofit organizations whose work aims to improve the quality of life for the community residents they serve and preserve their special culture.

While this gives us a great start, we aren’t done yet; visit http://detroitsound.org/give/bird to continue your support.
