Abstract: The Jan Dijkers Rave Flyers contain hundreds of flyers advertising raves, techno and house music nights, parties, and DJ sets throughout the Metro Detroit area in the decade from 1994-2004. This collection offers a comprehensive look at the electronic music scene in Detroit just after techno’s heyday through the beginnings of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. The flyers are artistic works in their own right while also containing information about the working DJs of the scene, the local PR machine, and the schedules of clubs such as Motor Lounge in Hamtramck and Pure Detroit. Donor Jan Dijkers spun at this time as DJ Jan D and organized FLOW, a monthly night of all-female DJs at Foran’s that ran in the early 2000s. A number of FLOW flyers are present in the collection. DJs and musicians represented in the collection include DJ Minx, Jeff Mills, Rolando, Keith Kemp, Jennifer Xerri, Emily Ransom, and many, many more–if they spun in Detroit between 1994-2004, their name likely appears in the collection.
