Abstract: “Jordan’s Jukebox” is a Wurlitzer High-Fidelity & Stereophonic 2500 that played at Jordan’s Barber & Beauty at Ferry Park & Linwood from the 1960s until it was donated to the Graystone International Jazz Museum & Hall of Fame, with records still inside. In 2015, DSC was able to accession this incredible sonic gift into its collections, and aimed to restore it. Aided by V-M Electronics, it was finally restored in 2018, after which DSC was able to exhibit it for the first time at 8 Degrees Plato from October of 2018 to January of 2019. Following this, it has been exhibited at the Detroit Historical Museum in 2019 and the Detroit City Distillery in 2020. Although the jukebox as an artifact resided in the Graystone Jazz Museum for many years, the jukebox, its contents, and the documentation of its restoration and subsequent use has been separated out into its own collection. The collection includes an original Wurlitzer service manual, information on jukebox restoration from V-M Electronics, and a collection 45s.
