Abstract: Naima Shamborguer is a prominent Detroit jazz vocalist whose collection chronicles her consistent work in the local Detroit jazz scene through photographs, musicians’ charts, contracts, setlists, and flyers, ranging from the 1970s to the 2020s. Beyond her performances at jazz clubs such as Baker’s Keyboard Lounge or the stages of the Montreux-Detroit and Michigan Jazz Festivals, Shamborguer is also an accomplished lyricist, businesswoman, and educator. Her collection contains papers and ephemera related to her work producing her five CD projects, grant proposals and applications from the 1980s-2020s, and scripts and planning documents from her stage shows such as Me and Sarah: The Music of Sarah Vaughan. The material in this collection offers a comprehensive look at the life of a working artist in Detroit, and the talent, effort, and perseverance necessary to make a living in the industry.
