Abstract: Sarah Wilder, born and raised in Windsor, Canada, is a radio personality and former promoter within the Detroit-Windsor house and techno music scene. Also known as Miss Zak, Wilder’s collection of flyers documents the early 2000’s house music scene in Detroit, including the early days of Movement (DEMF) and the festival’s many afterparties. The flyers feature artists such as Carl Craig, DJ Rolando, DJ Minx, and Terrence Parker playing at venues throughout Detroit and Hamtramck like Lager House, Alvin’s, Motor Lounge, and Cloud 9. Also present in the collection are flyers advertising birthday and tribute parties for prominent scene members and promoters, such as Laura Gavoor, who ran Yin-Sight Management and is widely seen as a key behind-the-scenes figure in the global rise of Detroit Techno. Wilder’s status as a bridge between Windsor and Detroit paired with this collection of flyers offers evidence of the close relationship between the two cities, as well as of the influence of Detroit DJs, music, and party culture reaching outside the immediate bounds of the city.
