Abstract: Detroit is a city with a rich jazz history that is often overlooked in the national conversation. Although jazz in Detroit has been covered locally and is receiving wider attention, that attention is largely centered on male jazz musicians. The purpose of this oral history collection is to highlight the unique stories of the women who have made just as significant a contribution to jazz culture in Detroit.
